Drool in her mouth, very weak and cannot poop.

by Ana

I bought I new female parakeet about a month ago. I bought her so my male parakeet would have a friend with whom he can play with. She looked as she was sick from the beginning, but I felt sorry for her and I didn't return her.

First she had a big beak for her age. Then one day the beak was broken. She was also having problem with pooping. Today I realized that she barely could fly and I saw drool in her beak. I think that she cannot swallow the food, because I see seeds in her beak like it is stuck there .

I'm really worried about her she is very weak. Please don't tell me to send her to the vet because in my city there is no vet. What should I do?

Sorry for the long answer I'm waiting someone to replay.

I cannot abide stupid people

The vet is an hours drive away, you said. How do you think an hour in the car will kill the bird? That is complete and utter B.S.

YESTERDAY, I took my parakeet on a 3 hour round trip to see an AVIAN vet - and a couple hundred dollars later, my bird is going to get well. I do NOT treat my animals as a "disposable, I'll buy another one" pet.

Thanks for the concerns

Firstly, Thanks for all you comment
Secondly, I thought I made myself clear that THERE IS NO Avian Vet in my city. The nearest vet is in the capital city which I have to drive by car for at least one hour. And we all know that that would have killed my bird. In my city there are vets only for farm animals.
Thirdly, the parakeet died the day after. I cried but I knew that there is nothing I can do about it. I tried to hand-feeding her and she ate smth but not enough. What I did was to keep her warm with a cloth and stayed by her side and pet her.
My male parakeet is perfectly fine. I'll purchase another parakeet but in other pet shop.

No suggestions if no vet
by: Tracie

I am sorry, but there really isn't anything you can do but keep the bird warm and move the perches down low so it doesn't fall far as it reaches the end of it's life, if you really can not find an avian vet. There just is not an over the counter solution for sick birds.

Drooling Parakeet.

You know it makes me sad and yet angry at the same time, that people write posts about thier sick bird, and yet the thought never crosses thier minds to take them to a vet FIRST, instead they sit down and post on a forum. Thinking they'll get answers.

Only a vet who can EXAMINE your bird can give you the proper answers. Your bird needs to be seen physically by an avian vet.

My bird isnt even sick, and yet she's got an apt to see the vet tomorrow for a wellness exam.

I just don't get it, if you cannot afford a vet for any animal, especially a bird... then you shouldn't have a pet.

If you cared about your bird, truely, you'd of taken her to the vet before you posted on a forum. You should of taken the bird the first day you could see something was wrong.

Its not fair to the animal for you to deny it medical attention, and it has to sit and suffer.

Weak bird needs avian vet

You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

Sick parakeet

No one can do anything for your bird but a vet. If she seemed sick at the time you bought her, you're feeling sorry for her will not make her better. If beak is broken, she probably cannot eat, therefore she cannot make poop. Parakeets mostly eat crunchy foods and cannot crack seeds with a broken beak. Try hand feeding her some water with a dropper and some soft mushy fruits (like baby food) from your finger. If this bird is sick it is likely the other parakeets where you bought her are sick too. Without a vet treatment, there is nothing you can do but watch her starve to death. Parakeets are very fragile birds and easily get sick so be sure your other bird is okay. Good luck.
