Droppings sticking to feathers and vent

by Bill
(Carlisle, Ohio)

Can I use baby oil to remove the droppings. I just noticed it after hearing the parrot wheezing when she drops. She is a 19 year old Double Yellow Head Amazon. She is active and talks and jabbers a lot but I am concerned. Or should I see a vet?

Bird poop stuck to feathers
by: Tracie

I am so glad you asked! NO, do not use baby oil, it is toxic and the bird will likely spread it on the rest of the feathers and then it will lose it's ability to regulate it's temperature.

Your bird is sick, possibly a bacterial infection, but it could be anything. Please Find an Avian Vet to examine and treat your bird right away.
