Dying at the Vet's

by Nelly Miller
(los angeles, ca)

My family's bird died at the Vet today. They were clipping his nails and he chocked on his own vomit. How can this happen?

Bird died during nail clipping
by: The Avian Vet

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your bird. This is not uncommon when handling or when a bird is stressed. I am sure it was an accident. However, inexperienced handlers will not consider crop contents or type of handling especially when the crop is full. IF the bird regurgitates during handling then it can aspirate and die.

So sorry
by: Anonymous

My heart goes out to you on the loss of your family pet.

It sounds to me like your parrot may have had other health issues OR the clipping of the nails could have caused it stress.

I would be changing vets. It just doesn't sound normal to me for a parrot to die from having it's nails clipped.

Again I am so sorry for your loss!!
