eating with side of beak

My ring necked parakeet has been eating with the side of his beak for 2 days. He normally bites his apple with the center of his beak. He is still eating well and looks healthy and happy. I'm just worried he has hurt his beak.
Thanks
Janessa

Bird eating with side of beak

Beak injury is likely, or has he had a beak trim recently? You should have him seen by an avian veterinarian and monitor his weight to be sure he is eating.

If he's unable to eat the normal way, then he has hurt his beak. He needs to be examined by an Avian Vet to make sure he will be able to eat correctly again.

If your bird flies all over the house, then he's hurt himself. Have the Avian Vet clip his 4-6 long primary flight feathers which are the long ones at the end of each wing. Have them clip ONLY these feathers as this will allow him to glide down instead of falling like a rock. Trimming up any higher causes chronic pain, so make sure only the primary flight feathers are trimmed.

It is not healthy for birds to fly all over the house as they fly into mirrors, windows, pictures and the walls and doors as well. This can cause severe injury to a bird's beak and head, so don't allow this and protect your bird.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
