Egg bound?

by Shirley
(Ontario, Canada)

I have a rainbow lori as a family pet. She was born May 2000. Three to four times a year she lays 2 eggs a couple of days apart. This time she laid one egg, unfertilized, 7 days ago. Should I be worried? Could this have anything to do with her age?
She seems happy and I have no idea if she may be egg bound a he will not let me touch her below. I live in a small town that does not have an avarian veterinarian. Can anyone help with this?

Bird egg bound?
by: Tracie

If your bird was egg bound, it would not be alive by now. Please read the article on Chronic Egg Laying for more information on caring for birds that lay eggs.

If you are feeding your bird a healthy pellet diet, like Harrison's, then you don't have to worry about egg binding. Only birds lacking the proper nutrition have egg binding problems.
