Egg laid today

I came home from work and Buddy my quaker laid an egg. She is 9 yrs old. I just got her from a rescue in Feb., so I don't know if this is a first for her. There is a small bit of blood on th egg. Is this normal?

I checked her vent, and It is very clean, not bloody and I don't see anything prolapsing. She is happily sitting on it doing the quaker purr thing. Anything special I should do? I put in a call to my vet and am awaiting a call back. I am just so shocked - it is the last thing I expected. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Quaker parrot laid an egg

We have an article on our Parrot Training page about Chronic Egg Laying that would be good for you to read. That is the information that Dr. B repeats for those that ask about egg laying.

Even if this is the first time your bird has laid an egg, this article is good to read for all the helpful information about egg laying.

The main concern is the bird getting egg bound. If the bird is not on a healthy pellet diet like Harrison's then it is possible it will become egg bound.

When my bird laid it's first egg, it had some blood on it too. She was on Harrison's, so I was not too concerned, but did watch her closely the next couple days to make sure the next egg came out OK, if she laid another egg. She laid 4 more eggs just fine.
