Egg laying and changes in appearance of Sun Conure

My single sun conure laid her fist egg a couple of days ago. The egg fell to the cage floor and cracked so I removed it. She didnt seem to mind at all. She seems to have an egg like bump near her butt - is is possible another is coming? I also noticed there is a little blackening around her nostrils which has never been there before.

She has never been a feather picker but I noticed a very small patch of missing feathers on her belly. She eats a healthy pellet diet along with fresh fruits and veggies every day. She seems to be eating and poooping normally. She is acting fine so I dont know if I should be concerned or not.

Conure laying eggs

Yes, she could be about to lay another egg, they can lay an egg every 2 - 3 days. If you are feeding Harrison's pellets, then you have no worries of egg binding, because our avian vet has not seen egg binding in birds eating Harrison's pellets in his over 30 years practice.

It is good she is pooping normally, that is a good sign. The missing feathers is reason for concern. It is possible she pulled out the feathers to get to the discomfort inside, but I don't know.

Even though your bird is not a chronic egg layer, please read our Chronic Egg Laying article that was written by an avian vet. The article will help you understand the needs for birds that lay eggs.
