Egg Laying

My 14 year old Nanday Conure was laying eggs for about 2 months. She never came off the bottom of the cage after she stopped laying. After a month and a half, she is laying again. I feel so bad for her. She just lays there, so bored. Is there any way I can break this cycle, so that she can be active again? She does come up to eat and flap her wings every once in a while, but that's it. Thank you.

cronic egg laying
by: Anonymous

Cronic egg laying is a serious problem. Don't take her eggs away until she no longer wants them because she will just keep laying more. You need to limit her exposure to day light to about 8 hours a day. Cover her cage and make sure she gets 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night. My vet told me to take her mirrors away, put her in a wire bottom cage and get rid of anything she could use to make a nest. These things worked for my cockatiel. She became very ill on two seperate occasions from laying eggs. Most important get her on a good organic pellet diet. Good nutrition is vital for cronic egg layers.
