Ergent - bird falling

by Tessa
(Benoni South Africa)

My rescue Congo Grey has had and been treated for kidney failure,he had been through 5 mnth of trauma and abuse before i rescued him. He can hold on his purch but if not consintrating he falls off and finds it hard to climb back up most of the time. When he falls of he lands on his feet and cant move for a while. Its as though he goes into shock. Could this be caused by the kidney infection or the trauma?

Recovering Well
by: African Congo Grey Rescue World

Hi There

Its been a week or two and my rescue African Grey Parrot is recovering well from his trauma and kidney failure.

His almost walking and talking again. Hardly ever falls off his purch, and is much stronger.

I put him in a lower parrot cage last week Tuesday night it took one day to show improvement.

He dont have seasures any more and on a healthy eating plan.

I would like to thank everybody who has helped me through this very dificult part of saving my orphans life. (African Congo Grey Parrot)

Find an Avian Vet

Your bird needs to be examined and treated by an Avian Vet only. I also don't understand what you think is wrong with him. Kidney failure results in almost immediate death, so he may still have an infection if you didn't take him to an avian vet. Dog and cat vets are not licensed to treat birds and can be held responsible for their death, so usually will do nothing that actually helps the bird. It's very important you find someone who is an avian vet before your bird dies.

If he has considerable kidney damage, then he may not last long, but in case this is just an infection, he needs to be taken care of.

Thank you for taking him in and do the best you can to help him as he's very young and still could have a lot of life ahead of him.

Linda
