It could be conjunctivitis which causes the eyelids to swell and turn red and makes the bird avoid light because it hurts its eyes. Or it could be a sign of some internal disorder that should be treated right away to avoid complications, blindness or even death. Lack of vitamin E or prolonged exposure to artificial light also causes eye problems in birds. The only way to know for sure is to have your bird examined by an avian vet as soon as possible.
