feather loss

My peach faced love bird continues to loss his feathers. I do not see him pulling them out. He is totaly bare skinned around his chest and around his bottom. There seems to be some little black things there? He is eating and acts totally healthy. There is another love bird with him but he had this skin condition before I got him.
Any suggestions.

As Tracie said, take both your birds to an Avian Vet to have this seen about. It sounds like a parasite, and this has to be taken care of right now before both birds are bare.

Parasites are usually too small to see, but birds do get other types if they are allowed to play in floor, grass or dirt or with dogs and cats.

Please do not delay taking both birds into an Avian Vet as soon as you can.

You need to take your bird to see an avian vet to determine what is causing this. Dr B can not tell you why this is happening because he can not examine your bird.

Please read Dr B's Feather Damaging Behavior article for more information.
