Feather loss

i have an eight year old scarlet macaw that over night her chest feathers have disappeared? i have her paired with a ten year old blue and gold, and they did spend last night out in the top of an oak tree, which they are usually inside at night. i have had them since they hatched and have never had a plucking problem. Any ideas..........Could she be in heat?????????????

Plucked feathers overnight
by: Tracie

Birds do not go into heat, and when breeding season comes, they do not pluck all their chest feathers overnight.

It could be from stress, especially not knowing your situation. Is your oak tree contained in an outdoor aviary? Could a predator attack your birds, like cats, racoons etc? Are wild birds perching in the trees that can pass along disease?

If any of the above is possible, then your birds could have any number of infectious diseases. If you somehow have a giant contained aviary, then it is likely stress.

Please read out Feather Damaging Behavior article for more information.
