Feather Picking

I have an Indian Ring Necked Parakeet that picks his feathers frequently. I have been spraying him on a daily basis with Stop Pick Spray and this has helped a little but he really should be covered in green feathers. What else can I do as he absolutely hates being sprayed with it and it is hard to spray his belly area as he flies away as soon as he sees the bottle.

Feather chewing problem
by: Tracie

Feather chewing and plucking is a complicated problem. If your bird has been seen by an avian vet to rule out health issues that might cause this, then please read our Feather Damaging Behavior article that was written by an avian vet.

It could be that your bird is doing this out of habit now. Some people put a parrot "sock" on their bird to keep them from picking their body. You can purchase them at http://www.thesockbuddy.com/ . (The link is not "live" because I can't afford dead links if this website goes out of business.)
