Feather Plucking African Grey

by Sue
(England)

My bird has been plucking for nearly 2 years now. She is 7 years old. We took her to an Avian vet and he gave her hormeones for nearly a whole year as soon as she stopped having them she lost her feathers again.

I got some advice from some one who keeps a lot of greys and hes suggested I try some worm medicine which I gave every day for 10 days and sprayed her cage with Bogena birdspray again this worked for a couple of days and her feathers started to come back nicely but once again she has started to pluck again.

She is a really fussy eater and only occassionaly has veg and hardly touches fruit. Her main diet is her tidy mix. Any advice would be appreciated. She seems really happy apart from that. But she is rather skinny. She adores milk but I am not so sure this is a good thing for her although I sometimes give her weetabix mixed with milk as well. Is it ok to give her milk.??

The Vet answered this question under our Ask the Vet. Milk should not be fed to birds.
