Feather plucking or natural shedding???

by Betsy

I have a 6 month old yellow-naped amazon named Munchichi. It seems to me like his chest and bottom feathers have patches of missing feathers and it almost seems like a grayish fuzzy feather where the light green feathers were.

My question is... is this a normal thing or is it feather plucking? He has plenty of toys and a variety in his food and comes out to play with the family at least 3 times a day.

I am hoping this is normal and not feather plucking. I do not find bright green feathers missing from his wings or back nor do I find them on the bottom of the cage. Please help me either help my bird or just for peace of mind hahaha!!!!

Feathers missing

Missing feathers is never normal. It could be feather plucking, an infection or a disease. Dr. B can not tell what is wrong because your bird needs to be examined and have tests run.

Please take your bird to an avian vet asap for an examination. Sorry for the bad news, but I am so glad you asked so that your bird can get help.
