Featherless and yucky bum

by Hannah
(Australia)

Hi, I have a male white fronted blue scarlet and he is around 18 months old. He has been happy and healthy since I got him and has been happy wandering around on the floor of my aviary and flying from perch to perch, but within the last few weeks I have noticed that he has a bit of a yucky bum. His feathers which were once there are all gone from his rear end(nearest to his but) and has been increasingly sad in the aviary.

What can I do to help him? He is in the aviary with a few zebra finches and a few canaries, they all get along rather nicely most of the time. Please help.

Bird with yukky bum needs an avian vet
by: Tracie

You need to take the bird to an avian vet for an exam, to determine what is wrong and what the prescribed treatment should be. Also, separate the bird from the others. If this ends up being something contagious, then you will need the avian vet to treat the other birds too, since you have had the bird in the aviary with them.
