Featherless Eye

My male budgie has lost a bit of feathers around one of his eyes. I have caught him rubbing that same side against his cage....could that be the problem?

Bird with potential bacterial infection
by: Tracie

Yes, eventually the infection will spread and your bird will die, and it will be very uncomfortable through this process.

Most avian vets take payments.

No avian vet
by: Anonymous

We do not have an avian vet near us and i think he does have a bacterial diasese because now there is bits of yellow around the same eye. How can I get rid of this diasese without an avian vet? Thanks

Editor's note: There is not an over the counter medicine for this, sorry.

Bird rubbing feathers off eye
by: Tracie

Yes, your bird is probably rubbing the feather off. You need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird in person to determine why the bird is rubbing it's eye this way. It may have an infection that needs to be treated. Dr B can not tell without examining your bird in person, sorry.

Many birds get bacterial infections from drinking and bathing in water dishes that have been sitting for more than 3 hours. It is best to have a water bottle for drinking and then only provide a water dish long enough for the bird to bathe and then remove it.
