feathers above beak

I have a quaker that is about 2 years old, got him about a month ago. The feathers above his beak have come out and it looks like a small hole. His beak also looks like it is peeling or something - starting at the bottome. What could be wrong???

Peeling beak and missing feathers
by: The Vet

The peeling on the beak may be normal, but I would have to see it it know for sure. The hole I can guess is the nare (nostril), but I don?t know, again, without seeing it. I recommend that you have your bird seen by an avian veterinarian. You should do this annual for a well-bird check up and vaccinations.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Above the beak is the Cere and this is where the nose holes are. If you are seeing another hole besides the two nostrils, then there is something wrong. Possibly an injury or something.

My recommendation is to make an appointment with an Avian Vet in your area and have your bird examined for injury and bacterial infection. When birds change homes, they are under a great deal of stress and usually will be open for an infection.

It would be in your and bird's best interests to take him for a checkup so you can start fresh and know he's healthy.
