feathers around the throat and chest missing

my father in law brought a pair of galahs 2 years ago the hen had a slight bald spot the size of a 1p but over the last year or so she has lost more feathers around her chest and throat area they have never breed

i am now thinking of buying these birds of him the birds have always been kept in a cage in a wooden shed cage size 3ft w 2ft deep they now have the chance to go in my aviary 9ft wide 6ft deep 6ft high but i am concerned the cold weather is going to kill her do you know what could be causing her to lose these feathers and how can i get them to grow back regards Richard

Thing is the male is feather perfect has been for years so can it really be a disease causing the hen to lose these feathers some one please help

Editor's note: You need to take the bird to an avian vet because it could still be a bacterial infection or other health issue.

Bird missing feathers

If your dad has never taken the bird to an avian vet, then you need to Find an Avian Vet to examine these birds before bringing them into your aviary.

Dr B can not tell you if this is behavioral or a medical condition without examining the birds. If the birds have a disease, they will infect your flock and will not be able to handle the stress of the move or the cold.

Your avian vet will be able to advise you what is best after examining the bird and talking to you about your aviary situation.
