Feathers fading on chest and Weird Behavior

by James

My mitred conure over a period of 4 months has had her natural green feathers on her chest fade at the tips to a dark gray. Recently she tried repeatedly and forcefully for me to mate with her. She seems to actively respond to the calls of the native breed of mitred conure that inhabit my neighborhood. Im concerned for her well being and dont know what I can do.:(

Fading feathers

First make sure you are feeding a good diet. A parrot?s diet needs to be 80% pellets, 20% treats. Harrison's is the best pellet.

Also, your bird needs unfiltered (not through a glass window) sunshine for a couple of hours daily or a full spectrum light indoors for 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon.

Also your bird should have a bath 2-3 times weekly, with at least one soaking bath. If you bathe more then add a bath spray like Avi-x Bird Rain to prevent the feathers and skin from drying.

You also should teach your bird to forage so he has more to do than over preen, watch outside birds, and play with boring toys.

Finally, take your bird in to see an avian veterinarian to screen for health problems.
