female cocktiel is blown up & breathing heavy.

I join with everyone else with the advice to take your bird to Avian Vet as an emergency.

If YOU were sitting in the floor all blown up and breathing heavy with your eyes shut, your family would rush you to the emergency room. Your bird is suffering and is probably dead by now because of your lack of concern.

Writing someone is not enough when a life hangs in the balance. If your bird dies, hopefully you will learn something about human compassion toward other life forms and how to handle an emergency situation with your next bird if you are fortunate enough to have another one.

sick cockatiel

I think that your bird is sick, take it to a vet asap, as birds are not very resilient when sick and can die fairly quickly.. Good Luck

Cockatiel possible egg binding
by: Tracie

You need to find an avian vet THIS MOMENT if your bird is still alive. It is possible your bird is trying to lay an egg that won't pass. Your bird will die if this is the case.

Either way, if it is not egg binding, your bird is extremely ill and will not be alive long without an avian vet's help. Do not take your bird to a regular cat/dog vet, they often kill birds accidentally in routine visits due to their lack of education and experience with small birds.

You can look for an avian vet on our Find an Avian Vet page. If there is not one listed in your area, search on one of the links at the top of the page.
