Female Ringneck with unfertalised egg.

by Rebecca
(Perth WA Australia)

My little IRN is 2 this spring and has been recently acting a bit weird, as in looking for nesting places all over the house and sleeping alot. While playing with her two nights ago I felt what I am sure is an egg near her vent. Ive had females lay unfertalised eggs before and realise its normal, but I want to know how long it usually takes to be laid, and if i can do or give her anything to help her.
Thank you

Indian ringneck might lay egg?
by: Tracie

Here is what Dr B says about birds laying eggs:

"They produce an egg which takes about 25 hours. This occurs about 4-6 times per laying cycle over a 7-10 day period. When she is (with egg) she is gavid."

If you feed your bird a healthy pellet diet like Harrison's or Roudybush you will not ever have to worry about egg binding.
