Female yellow crowned amazon acting strange

by Jennifer
(Milton, Florida)

The other day my 10 yr old female ycamazon started acting strange. She started making a funny chirp noise and it is as if she froze up. When I touched her her whole body was trembling and she just stayed bent forward and making the noise. She has never done this before and now that she has done it the first time she has done it at least once a day since. If anyone can tell me what could possibly be going on with her I would appreciate it

Amazon acting strange

Some things that come to mind are calcium deficiency (if she is not eating a pellet diet), hormonal / breeding / egg laying behavior (is "she" DNA sexed?), high cholesterol / triglycerides, lead / zinc poisoning, not enough light or lack of UV light, viral infection or other, and maybe other possibilities.

You should make an appointment with your avian veterinarian for a work up. Amazons need a physical exam every 6 months, and a complete work up every year including vaccines.
