How eggs are fertilized
by: Tracie

The eggs get fertilized before the egg is laid. Hopefully the egg is NOT fertilized. You really must get some help and experience BEFORE you breed your birds. Your birds should also get checked by an avian vet to make sure they are healthy.

I suggest you separate the birds, so they don't breed, or purchase fake eggs that you can always replace the fertile eggs with.

If your birds are not eating 80% high quality pellets, your female could become egg bound, and die, trying to lay eggs. If your female sits and appears to be straining for a long period of time, then rush the bird to an avian vet right away.

If the egg(s) are fertile, then contact a good breeder and offer to help them with their birds, so you can get some experience feeding babies. Sometimes the parents don't feed the babies, or even try to kill them, and you have to feed them. If you don't know what you are doing, you may kill the babies.

Read up on breeding birds, this really isn't the place to train you, and I am not a breeder and don't have the knowledge to train you.

Yes, your bird may lay more eggs, but that doesn't mean the male has fertilised them. She may lay an egg every couple of days.
