Tap Water
by: Sis

I give my bird distilled water. When I first had him he got tap water - then suddenly became very ill. We finally traced it to a chemical the city had used to clean the water pipes. Birds and fish all over the city became ill - some died. Since it wasn't a "new" chemical they were using (i.e. one they had used in the past) they did not send out any notices. For the $0.69 that a gallon of distilled water costs versus the $500 vet bill, it's far cheaper in the long run for me to buy the bottled water (and much easier on my nerves!).

Bottled drinking water for parrots
by: Tracie

Hello Dee,

That is a VERY good question! It is best to give your bird bottled drinking water to reduce both the chlorine and other chemicals that are in tap water.

Also, if you ever have to board your bird when you go on a trip, you can take the bottled water for the person caring for your birds and you bird will not have to get used to different tasting water.
