Green Cheek Conure - Coco

My green cheeked conure Coco is about one year old (I named him before the DNA was done). He's a very affectionate little bird and is very attached to me. I try to spend as much time with him as possible but during the week he's home by himself most of the day. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get him a friend (I was thinking of a cinnamon conure) for him to play with. I always see birds at a pet store having lots of fun playing with each other in their cages. Will I run into the problem of the two birds getting attached to each other more then to me? Will I still be able to teach them how to talk (Coco's try to say a few words now)? Or should I just make sure Coco has enough toys to play with when I'm not around and keep him by himself? Thank you

Getting your bird a friend
by: Tracie

What a beautiful bird! We had this same question a few years back. My husband was determined that our Green Cheeked Conure needed a buddy. I wrote a story about it. Should I get another Green Cheek Conure?

Our birds still like us over each other, but preen each other and sleep in the same tent. I am always told that the birds will like each other more than you, but I have not talked to anyone personally that told me that happened to them.

The bottom line is that you want to purchase the bird for you, and if the two birds get along that is great! Just be prepared for them to live in separate cages and be prepared to care for both of them for many, many years.
