Fruit of the Palm Tree

A friend of mine gives her parrot the fruit of the palm tree. These are little nut like clusters that grow on her palm trees.

Are these safe? If the are how do you feed to them?

Yes they're safe but I have only seen parrots eat the fruit, never the flowers. I give the whole cluster to my birds to chew on, once it looks old I throw it away.Because I have never seen parrots go near the flowers in the wild I never let my bird go near the flowers.

NO, do not feed the FRUIT OF ANY PALM plants/trees AS THEY ARE MOST LIKELY POISON. Please alert your friend that she may be systematically poisoning her bird. Palm plants are safe to have in a bird's area as the leaves are not toxic, but the fruit and liquid of most of the safe plants are NOT safe for the bird to eat.

Here is an internet list of safe plants, and the Palms are on it, but note the warning about the fruits of at least one species, and I'd not feed any of the fruits including ornamental Banana plants. It is always better to be safe than sorry, and we appreciate you asking BEFORE feeding something strange:

There is more information to be had about the subject. I did a search on "Is the Palm Fruit Safe for Parrots", so you may wish to do the same and read more about it.
