funny noises and nibbling

I have a quaker parrot who is about 6 months old now and iv had him for a month, he started off not very tame but now he is really tame and comes to the front of his cage to be patted and he sits on top of his cage and doesnt fly away when you pat him and he steps on your finger. However the past week he has been making this kind of purring noise when you pat him and is nibbling my hand and fingers, it doesnt hurt but im scared he is angry and doesnt want to be patted, even though when u scratched his neck he closes his eyes and puffs up like hes enjoying it. Is he unhappy ? thanks

Sounds like he is happy, but discourage the nibbling on your fingers as this can lead to biting.

If your bird has a healthy appetite, is full of energy and does not have any digestive problems, he is probably not sick. We do, however, recommend all new birds be examined by an Avian Vet within the first few days we have them because all birds coming from pet stores are already sick with some kind of infection. So, if you've not taken him to an Avian Vet yet, please do so to make sure he is healthy and not suffering effects of a low level infection.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
