galah has bare patch under wing

Our Galah has a bare patch under his right wing. It does not seem to be worrying him. He does not seem to be scratching and is not moulting. He is housed in a large cage on the verandah right outside the back door.. He eats parrot crumbles and fruit and celery. His treat is a smallpiece of wholemeal bread with sesame seeds at breakfast time.

2 years ago he had a large fat tumour removed from his lower stomach area and since then has been on a Crumble diet - no sunflower seeds! He has been fime since then and doesn't appear sick now but we are a little concerned. sorry, no pictures as yet.

Galah with bare patch
by: The Avian Vet

Birds have a natural bare patch under their wing. Typically it is more noticeable when they are wet and of course when they stretch their wings.

However, Galahs are known to be feather plucker and the bare spot may not be normal. You should have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian. This could be a medical issue such as dry skin, allergies, or other illness.
