Gouldian Finch - standing on right leg only - left leg weak

by Janet

I have a Gouldian finch who began standing only on his right let, holding his left leg up constantly. I checked his nails and they appear to be of normal length. There were no other obvious signs of injury to the left leg or foot. I've noticed that if he attempts to use the left leg/foot to stand/perch he is unable to maintain a grip and occasionally falls backward off the perch. What might be the cause of this?

Injured Leg
by: Linda

Your little bird's leg could have been injured while you were away from your home or it could have an infection that needs to be looked at.

Your bird needs to be taken to an Avian vet in your area so they can get to the bottom of what is wrong with leg. If it has been broken or fractured or is infected, it will get much worse, so don't delay taking bird to vet. The Gouldians are very beautiful and expensive members of the finch family, and I know you wish to do what is best for him.

Let us know what vet said about bird's leg after your visit, as we will be waiting to hear.
