green check back feathers changing colors

I have had my green cheek for 8 years and he seems to be very healthy and spirited as always, however his back feathers on both shoulders are turning black over time but they are not frayed in anyway. someone had told me that is was stress and someone else told me it was probably oil coming from my hands or hair products since he is on my shoulders about 80% of the time. he isn't showing any problems with anything and there is no difference in his attitude or spirit and his diet hasn't changed and he gets fresh fruit everyday along with pellet food does this sound like something to be concerned about?Ilove my baby he is my mate of sorts and want to make sure I am doing everything to make and keep him healthy and happy

Ceejay your green cheek seems to be very healthy but his feathers on both shoulders are turning black. It could be stress as someone told you. You said that his diet hasn't been changed. He gets fresh fruit everyday along with pellets, but "what kind of pellets" is he getting? All pellets aren't the same although I doubt it very much if that would change your bird colour and so drastically.
Maybe it's the hair oil, if he's rubbing against your hair and you've a lot of oil on your hair; that could be changing the colour of his feathers. I'm concerned about your bird; he needs to be checked as Tracie mentioned by an Avian Vet. You could also Google your type of bird and you'd get very good information that'll help you to care for your little bird.
You take care Ceejay and God bless you both.

It could be stress, it could be a poor diet, it could be the bird has a health issue. Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
