Green Check Conures Fighting

I have two green check conures ...every time they come close they start fighting really aggressively. One of them fights until it pushes the other one out of their inmediate space. Are they males fighitng for territory? Than again the one that gets pushed tries to fly on top of the otherone...is this mating behavior?
