green cheek conure baths

We just bought a green cheek conure. We have had him for 5 days. He is 15 weeks old. Is there a way to introduce him to bathing so that he will enjoy it? I put a large bowl of water on the floor but he just sits on the edge of it

Ezra's bath time
by: Anonymous

I found out that if I let Ez sit on my arm as I am dong dishes- he will go down to check out the water coming. By letting him run down and up my arm a few times- he thought it would be a good time to take a bath. He walks in and out of the water on his own. By letting him do it this way, we not only have a stranger bond between us but he feels like he is in control of his bath. It makes it more enjoyable for him and I love the looks and sounds he makes while doing it.

When putting a bath in for your bird, always make sure the water is very shallow. So you would use a heavy very shallow dish. Water any deeper than their legs makes them afraid of drowning, so they will not get in it. Just fill a nice heavy bowl with a shallow amount of water in the bottom, and he may just hop right in. Also, make sure the sides and low enough so he can get out easily without hurting himself. Wet birds cannot fly when wet. They make bird baths that can be hung on the inside of the cage, and you may wish to look at some for your size bird. Any pet store can help you, and there are lots of places on the internet as well.

Thanks for writing,
