green cheek conure black feathers

My green cheek conures feathers keep getting worse they are black and she has started chewing them all and plucking feathers. We give her fruit and vegies and she also has vitamins in her water what else can cause this? We are getting her a mate in a few weeks hoping that will help but do you have any other suggestions?

Vitamins added to water

If your avian vet prescribed them, then they should be fine because they are specifically for your bird, but it confuses me why your vet would prescribe vitamins instead of leading you to feeding your bird properly.

Once your bird is eating a healthy pellet diet, do NOT add vitamins, or the bird will be overdosed.

Thank you for your suggestion I will try the pellets. The vitamins we got were from an avian vet are even these ones no good?

Green Cheek needs diet change

This is often a sign of poor nutrition. The vitamins in the water can kill your bird, so discontinue those right away. To insure your bird is getting the proper nutrition, you need to introduce your bird to a healthy pellet diet. Our avian vet suggests Harrison's or Roudybush for 80% of the birds diet and 20% healthy treats. Colored pellets and cheap pellets that are full of sugar and chemicals will not help your bird, so don't try those.

It may take some time to convert your bird, you might have to put the pellets in with some soft fruit at first. Please read our Switching Birds To Pellets article that was written by our avian vet.
