Green cheek limping

by Rudy

My green cheek is a 22 year old female. Last week I noticed she was not putting much weight on her right leg and limping. It took her about 5 days to recover but today (2 days after her recovery) she is limping again and favoring the same leg.

She is able to eat, scratch and grasp things with the right foot and it looks normal. Her demeanor seems normal too, other than the limping and a little extra resting with her right leg tucked under her wing.

She had a similar issue a couple years ago and I took her to the vet for x-rays but nothing was wrong. It only took a couple days for her to recover that time. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks so much.

The things that come to my mind are arthritis, enlarged ovary, enlarged kidney, and trauma. You might consider taking your bird for a second opinion

Thanks for writing. Dr B will eventually answer this, but if I were you I would take the bird to an avian vet to make sure there is not a health issue. X-rays are good, but what if there is a nutritional issue and the bird is having partial strokes?

Make sure you are not feeding your bird more than 20% seeds and be careful with feeding table food that is full of fat, chemicals and such.
