Green cheeked conure help

 That's my baby

That's my baby

I have a Green cheeked conure, he's about 3 and a half, and I've noticed that on the back of his neck and his head, there are white stems, I'm not quite sure what they are. There's less of them after his baths, but not before long he gets a new one. He never has more than 6 of these white stem things, but are they a big problem? Is he sick or is this normal? I mean he can't reach these spots to pluck the feathers off or anything. I know this is a long question but I just don't know what they are. Please help me if you can.

Hard white things on Conure
by: Tracie

What a pretty bird you have.

The hard white things are feathers coming in. They can be very sensitive while still covered with the white sheath. The bird may even nip you if you touch them, unless they want you to "preen" them by gently squeezing the new feather to help the white covering come off.

It is good you are giving the bird a chance to bathe. This will greatly help the bird with it's molt and soften the new feather's coating to help it fall off.
