Green parrot at my outdoor feeders

by tex bird watcher

i'm not sure if someone in our area has lost a parrot, but we have one in our small neighborhood. it has green feathers with the black head. it is hanging around our front & back yard area (in the trees, on the birdfeeders). we have domesticated doves that are in an atrium type cage on a patio area near my husbands shop & we have alot of visiting doves/etc. i do believe this parrot is looking for food & company. does anyone have any suggestions on catching this young fellow, or should we just leave him free? thanks for any help.

thanks again, tracie.....that is so funny....that is exactly what we have done. we have a fairly large wire cage that we set up in our back yard on some saw horses....we put feed inside & tied a string to the door, that shuts from the inside...we ran the string to the patio & when we pull it it will far we have had a male cardinal come in it..hehe....we have had horrible weather the last few days, & expecting storms again this afternoon. i am surprised that the lit'l guy/gal is still around to be honest with you. it was here again this morning...i am trying to talk it down with "pretty bird" just looks at me, bobs it's head & hopped from high branches to the lower ones, & i thought for a min. that it might jump down on my arm or just flew off. i will keep the cage up though & try to catch it...i did put out a ad asking if anyone had lost a parrot....thought maybe if the owner called it that he/she would recognize the voice. i will let you know if we catch it. anyone having any suggestions please let us know.....thanks from tx!

Yes, catch it before a hawk or owl catches it!

You can put a cage outside with food and water in it and hope that the bird goes in to eat. Put the food as far away from the door to the cage as possible so that you will have the possibility of shutting the door before he escapes.

If you have the time, you can sit out there not far away, very still, so that you will be ready to shut the door. You might even have a big towel to throw over the cage before you shut the door.

thanks tracie...we had already looked up parrots to find out what kind it might be. our problem is trying to catch it....or should we even be trying. we did not know if maybe it would return to it's home/cage if we just let it is back at our house again this morning...we are in anahuac, tx....southeast of houston,!
