green parrot hiding from us

The first thing you can do is give us more information. We need to know what kind of parrot this is, if it is weaned or still needs to be handfed, if weaned, what kind of food you are feeding, has it been examined by an Avian Vet for infections, what kind of cage it has, and most importantly what kind of home you have. How many people are in your family, any other pets, where is cage located and so forth.

New birds are frightened to death of their new home, and if your family is large and noisy, then bird is even more afraid. If you have cats or dogs, bird is scared of them, and this is with cause. Cats and birds do not get along, and one scratch from a cat will kill a bird. Dogs and birds do not get along unless dogs are removed from entire area before taking bird out of cage. Lastly, birds need 12 hours of darkness and quiet in which to sleep and about the same of natural daylight which can be provided with full spectrum lights hung above cage.

Avian Vet check is very important as all new birds need to be checked for infections or other physical issues before any taming or training can begin. Bird's trust is earned not freely given, so have him checked by Avian Vet, provide a quiet place for him to sleep at night and keep other pets and smaller children away from cage and away from bird forever.

Write us again after you've taken your bird to the Avian Vet, and let us know how Avian Vet says he is physically and then give us more information.

Your parrot needs to earn your trust. Take it slow and the best thing to do is be patient. Also, have you ever heard a 3 month old baby human talk? No, neither do 3 month old parrots. It can sometimes take up to a year for them to catch on. While some learn quicker than others, it is never guarenteed that your parrot will ever talk. Does it make it that much less "cool"? Hopefully not. Be patient and kind to your baby and it will return the same respect.
