Green Quakers Parrots Beak and my Conure bird??

by lauren warren
(Greensburg, Indiana, US)

I was wondering?
What is the cause of a green quaker parrot's beak that is growing fast?
I might be getting that kind of bird from someone and would it hurt anything to put my Fancy green cheek conure bird in the same cage if i get this bird? and well i have a peach face love bird too with my conure bird but would it hurt anything to put my 2 birds in with the green quaker parrot.

Thank you
lauren W

Dr B can not tell you without examining your bird. He suggests that you take the bird to an avian vet before bringing the bird home. Often fatty liver disease causes this condition though. An all seed diet destroys the liver.

You can NOT just bring that bird or ANY bird home and stick in the cage with another bird or birds. After taking the bird first to an avian vet for a check up and vaccine, then the bird should go in a separate cage and preferably in another part of the house for quarantine.

Do not put the birds together in the same cage unless you see them play together without ANY problems outside the cage. Then, put the new bird on top of the other bird's cage and see what happens. Be ready to scoop up the bird if the resident bird decides to attack.

If the resident bird does not mind the new bird on it's cage, then watch them closely and put a favored treat in the cage in two separate dishes. If the other bird is welcome inside the cage to get the treat, then they will probably get along. Still, you need to be there with gloves and long sleeves on to break up any fight that might arise.
