Once you learn how to clip its easy.I learned they can be expensive. They don't take off much. Watch them do it, so you'll be able to next time.

Editor's note: If you hit the blood supply your bird may bleed to death if you are not experienced and keeping a bleeding, scared bird still while trying to stop the blood.

Yes, you are risking her catching something. I recommend that you have this done by an avian veterinarian. Bird stores do not always know how to do grooming properly. Find an Avian Vet

Also, if you give her the proper perches you will not need to do nail trims. The best perch is the Polly's Pastel Pedicure Perch. The medium or large. The perch needs to be over sized to work properly. It also needs to be the highest perch in the cage. This way she will sleep on it.

This will not only take care of the nails, it will prevent bumblefoot lesions. If the nails are long, then have them trimmed, but use this perch and it will be the last time. You should have your bird vaccinated for polyomavirus to protect your bird.

Yes, so please take your bird to an AVIAN VET ONLY to have any grooming done. Many pet store employees do not know how to do this correctly, and they can hurt your bird. The other thing is your bird will be exposed to possibly sick birds by doing this.

Always take birds to an Avian Vet for grooming of any kind. If you are just having nails and/or wings clipped, it will not cost anymore than going to a pet store, and your bird will be less at risk for infections.
