Grey feathers

by Kelsey

So we just got our birds yesterday and they seem to be fairly young. Our lovebirds are mates and are basically inseparable however they get a little irritable sometimes. One of the birds has little grey feathers with color at the tips on it's breast. They look like baby feathers but we're afraid it's sick or has been plucking it's feathers. there's no balding whatsoever and the little feathers are tiny. We haven't seen it plucking or being bullied by the other bird. We may return it to the store in fear that it's sick but I don't want to give them up. Help?

New birds with grey feathers

These feathers may have stress marks or this could be a nutritional problem. There are many things that can affect feather quality. I recommend that you have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian. Your birds may need to be changed to a pellet diet. Switching Birds To Pellets article They my need a full spectrum light, too.
