Guinea fowl - pink swollen eyelid

by Hercules

Hi, I have a Guinea fowl that has been lethargic for a few days, with the eyelid of one eye swollen and pinkish.

The eye is closed most of the time but the glimpses I had of it when it was opened shows no signs of trauma or any infectious discharge. The bird hardly eats anything.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, as Tracie said, the only way to heal a sick bird is to take it to a vet who specializes in treating birds, namely an Avian Vet. Anytime you see what looks to be abnormal behavior or an outright problem like this one, please take your birds to an Avian Vet in your area.

We are unable to offer any quick fixes here because we do not advocate home treatment for sick birds. Bird illnesses have to be properly diagnosed before they can be treated, and the only way for this to happen is to take them to an Avian vet.

Good Luck and God's Speed,

Guinea needs to see a vet

I am sorry, but Dr B will not be able to help you with your bird. He can not diagnose or suggest treatments online legally. Also, he does not want to encourage people to attempt to diagnose and possibly treat a bird themselves, because it is VERY possible they will treat the wrong thing and the bird will die.

Dr B suggests that you take your bird to see an avian vet if at all possible so that the real problem will be addressed and treated and the bird will get relief.
