few weeks old baby quaker parrot. loosing 5 or more tail feathers. baught him at a flea market, I am hand feeding him. he is living a box like hermit crabs come in until ready for cage. I clean 1=2 times daily his living space. Bath him everyday or every other day and use a bird spray. feed him 3 times a day. He seems happy and growing. Notice one nat type bug in his living space, can not see mites, he has feathers but his body had the fussy white stuff instead of feathers. he is eating and appears healthy other than that. His poop stays brown and does't turn white , just brown and firm.

Possible sick parrot
by: The Vet

If the tail feathers are falling out, this could be polyomavirus, PBFD virus, or some other infection common seen in flea market birds. Other possibilities include nutritional deficiencies, and the tail may be broken because the Brooder (box) is too small. If he is being hand fed and still in a brooder, you should not give him a bath, especially everyday. Wait until he is full feathered and weaned . Gnats indicate the brooder is not being cleaned often enough. It should be cleaned every time he is fed. His droppings sound normal. Take him in to see an avian veterinarian.
