Hand feeding my ringneck

by Emma
(Benoni, Gauteng, SA)

Hi, I have a young ringneck. He/she is about 7 weeks old. I have allways had problems with feeding him, no matter the amount or temperature. He has been eating seeds for 2weeks now, but i continued to feed him, caus he ate only small amounts of seeds. He is starting to eat more seads, shoild I still keep feading him?

If you are weaning him onto an all seed diet, then he will starve to death slowly. Wean him onto an organic pelleted diet that will support his health for his entire lifetime.

If you can get these into your country, there are several kinds found here with Harrison's being the very best. If not, find some that do not have chemicals in them which means no dyes, sugar, preservatives or other dangerous chemicals that hurt birds.

You also need to have your bird examined by an Avian Vet in your area because bacterial infections are common with baby birds, and they die without being diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet.

Find an Avian Vet

Please get your bird weaned onto a high quality diet because all seed diets are slow starvation and birds are sick a lot and don't live as long as they should. They are also not happy, so feed your bird for optimum health so he is a happy, healthy bird.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
