Help Alexandrine parrot change the way it gets attention
by: Tracie

We do have some training articles that might help you on our Parrot Training page. With time and patience you can teach the bird an alternative behavior to get your attention.

It sounds as if the bird wants your husband to give him some attention. If your bird is attached to your husband and he is not paying attention to him, then he will continue to make noise.

The other issue here is whether your bird is sick or not. If it has been more than a year since last checkup with an Avian Vet ONLY, then it is time to have him examined to check for infections or other physical issues. Sudden changes in behavior usually indicate illness, and birds do not get over infections without being diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet in your driving area. Do not take bird to dog and cat vet because they are not licensed or trained in the treatment of birds and make matters much worse with incorrect diagnosis and treatment.

So, if your husband used to show your bird attention and has now stopped, your little bird is hurt and feels alone. If your bird is sick, he will also call out for help and screaming is the only way birds know to get the help they sometimes need.

Let us know what avian vet has to say and thanks for writing,
Linda
