Happy dance? Or a seizure of some kind?

My 5 month old green cheek conure, Demetri, will snuggle up to you and get low, make this tiny cute tweet sound over and over, and twitch one wing. Now, this twitch isnt a flap or a stretch, its really like a spasm, but he seems to do it only when he is happy...So is this a happy dance or is he a little spazzy? Is this normal behaviour?

Happy dance? Or a seizure of some kind?

I think he is okay. Seizure activity is NOT a happy time, and it is easy to tell when bird is having one because there will be other jerky movements of the head as well as wings and legs.Sometimes a seizure is just standing and staring, not moving like bird is frozen for moments or longer. All of the seizure behaviors look like something is just not right even if it only lasts for a moment or two.

I would recommend keeping an eye on him for this behavior at any other time, like when he is just sitting in his cage or eating or something like that.

If he has not been to avian vet in the last year, we recommend yearly trips to avian vet to catch problems before they become overwhelming for the bird and you.

Thanks much for writing,
Linda
