Hawk Attack

My budgie recently got attacked by a hawk, not very badly. the hawk only had enough time to grab his wing. The wing seems fine, and there was no blood. But all of a sudden he cant balance, on anything. he just falls off his perch, but there is no known sign of injuries on his foot/leg.

He also chews on everything he see's in a very aggresive manner, im very confused and dont know hes doing this? it only happened after the "attack".

Please Help?! im afraid he could have nerve or brain damage?

Hello again look, you really need to see an Avian vet I know they are expensive but this is the price we pay for keeping our little birds.
He is obviously in pain, do you not have another little cage or small box even (putting a grill on one side so he can see out)to keep him in away from the other bird, you could leave them side by side but it really needs to be on it's own.
I will tell you something my Kakariki became ill flew into ceiling light fitting I took him straight to Avian vet, he had injured his back preventing him walking properly. This got worse over the next 2 days despite medication so in the end I made the heartbreaking decesion to have him put down but the cost for that was nothing compared to the medication. Please go & get him checked out. Let me know what happens.

Hi guys, sadly little Buddy passed away yesterday afternoon. We are gonna miss him, and his friend is very quiet now, but we are going to buy him another friend, and we will make sure NO more hawks can cause any harm to them.

Thankyou for your comments. We have him at the bottom of the cage with a soft surface, and food and water. Our other budgie occasionally goes down and preens him. Hes eating but just cant seem to walk/climb, but his wings are in perfect form. We are thinking of getting him put down as we dont want him to suffer.

Its just so much to get them put down, its crazy!

I'm very sorry for your little bird & you.
If you cannot get to an Avian Vet then the next best thing is to ask a bird vet on line but, diagnosis will be very hard as they cant see the bird!
Wild birds pass on disease. While you are waiting keep your bird on the bottom of it's cage or put into a smaller cage so he cant move about much, keep it warm & part covered with food & water on the floor of the cage.
He is probably chewing this way because he is in pain.
If someone wrenched your arm think how you would feel.

The weird thing is, he got better 2 days later and was eating going on the perch, still with a bit of shakiness. Then about 3 days later he just got worse again and now he wont even get up on the perch.
We dont have any avian vets around our area thats the problem. We have never seen a hawk in our life so we didnt think it would happen.

Oh my! Just think if some giant swooped down and jerked you up by your arm with your full body weight hanging?

Birds have hollow bones, so your bird could have broken bones, something pulled out of place in its chest etc.

Please Find an Avian Vet right away, as in today, for this poor bird.

For those reading this, let this be a lesson on why we do NOT take our birds outside without it being in an enclosure that protects it from predators and wild bird disease.
