He quit using his gravel

by Amy
(Stettler AB Canada)

I have a Crimson Rosella that is about 7 years old. We moved about 2 months ago, and ever since, he has quit using his bird gravel. Any ideas? Is it okay if he doesn't use it? He eats Tropican pellets. Other than that, he hasn't changed at all. He eats the same and his behavior is the same. Does bird gravel go bad? It's a mix of oyster shells and a little charcoal (the stuff I use). Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

Don't ever feed your parrot gravel
by: The Vet

You should not feed your bird gravel, ever. It is not necessary in a parrots diet and should not be offered. One of the big problems with grit is that they can over eat it and become impacted.

Gravel
by: Lori

I don't really know anything about the Crimson Rosella but my vet advised me to throw away the gravel when it got impacted in the crop of my cockatiel. We almost lost her. Now I buy her calcium perches which she loves. My African Grey also loves the calcium perches.
