Head on Side

by Clare

Why does my peach face bird hold its head on the side at all times? Happy and eating but looks odd even when down on the ground. This has been going on for a long time but it even looks worse now.

Holding Head on Side
by: Don Houston Texas

I have been adopted by many parrots! I now have had two blue and golds for fifteen years. I believe that they get tired and just want to hold their heads up! If you do it with them by holding the other side, especially if they go to sleep this way, then move your hand, their head and body will move toward your hand, fingers, that are holding up their head, and will throw them off balance! This is because they are leaning against your hand for balance and holding their head. I have seen this in many other hook beak birds, parrots. Do not be concerned as far as I believe, hold their head for them this way even when they are not doing it themselves, let them know that you care and you know what they are doing and want to help. Another little thing that they do is to "rub" their eye lashes! Well, help 'em out! Gently move your finger over their eye lashes from front to rear a few times, they love it and will let you know when to stop! Oh, humans love it too! Hope this helps you! Don

Bird holding head wrong
by: Tracie

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

There is no way for an avian vet to determine what is wrong over the Internet. It could be an infection, disease or something else.
