You did your best
by: Anonymous

Hello ali, if you happen to read this, I'm so sorry for your loss. My son also lost his beautiful talking budgie this week to egg binding. Like you he tried warmth and gently helping out the egg. There are no avian vets near here, and I don't believe a vet could have helped anyway. And you hear stories of huge vets bills and the bird dies anyway because they are so prone to shock. At least she was warm at home in familiar surroundings. It's not your fault.

Editor's note: Feeding a quality pellet like Harrison's or Roudybush completely eliminates the possibility of egg binding.

Deformed Egg
by: Anonymous

I am so sorry for your loss - and although you were "blasted" for not getting help sooner, sometimes there is no other help. Like you, I have NO avian veterinarian close to me either. In a perfect world, our vets would have someone who is trained, or willing to treat birds, however, this is, unfortunately, not always the case. We try and do the next best thing and seek help from others - I thought that is one of the reasons this and other websites like it, are out there. Not only to share experiences, good or bad, and the love of our exotic friends, but to share advise and tips. We do the best we can to care for them. I know you did the best you could.

deformed egg stuck....... help was to late
by: ali

Too late. I tried all day yesterday to get help from someone and couldn't. I tried all of the tips that i got from the internet... warm rag, keeping bird warm, oil, etc.... nothing worked. I don't have a avian vet near me. She died though. It is very upsetting.

To Avian Vet
by: Linda

You can try and clean as much of it as you can with some warm, not hot, water and a soft cloth. I recommend you take bird to an Avian vet in your area immediately. Also throw away the other egg as they go bad in a short time and are poison to your birds.

It may be a better idea to go ahead and get your bird into your Avian vet as the picture looks very bad. What you are not able to clean may be eaten by your bird as she tries to clean herself up, and she could die from being poisoned.

Keep us posted,
Linda

Budgie needs a vet quick
by: Tracie

You must take your bird to an avian vet ASAP.

In the future, if you switch your bird over to Harrison's pellets, your bird will not have egg binding problems.

Please let us know how it goes at the vet.
